Aman Movement

It is named after Aman Satya Kachroo, a 19 year old medical student, who died in 2009 because of ragging. The Movement has since developed into a research facility for improved management of Social Sector programs of governments of India.

INNOVATION IN GOVERNANCE

Our Philosophy: Partnership

Most Non Governmental Organisations (NGO’s) work independent of governments. Many work as rubber stamp consultants for governments. Many work as contractors of governments. Aman Movement works in partnership with governments. Aman Movement believes NGO’s should not relieve a government of its responsibility on social sector obligations. NGO’s should help governments to deliver through improved research & management solutions. Aman Movement researches a problem and then develops a solution for the problem. Then campaigns for acceptance of the solution and finally works in partnership with a government to implement the solution.

We work to

eradicate Ragging from institutions of higher learning in India.

From 2012 we work in partnership with University Grants Commission of India and the Union Ministry of Human Resources of India to implement the National Ragging Prevention program. Together we have reduced ragging in India significantly. Confidential surveys show a drop in Ragging from 12% in 2013 to 5% in 2016.

WE WORK TO RESTORE THE EQUALITY & DIGINITY OF WOMEN IN INDIA.

Integrated Sakhi One Stop Center & 181 - Universal Women Helpline (Sakhi/181) is a scheme of the Union Government to restore Equality & Dignity of women in India. The idea is: By dialing a single 3 digit number, (181), from any where in India a women in distress (WID) can access nearest of 650 sakhi centers. A sakhi centre is a one stop crisis centre where staff will represent ( Not Refer) a WID in front of state service providers like police, legal services authorities, protection officers, counselors, Women’s Commissions etc.

To realise this vision Aman Movement has developed PRIYA JYOTI. It is state of the art management system & software for Sakhi/181. It is being implemented in several states in partnership with their respective governments. The initial results are very encouraging.

WE CAMPAIGN FOR FLOOD WARNING SYSTEMS AND LEGISLATION FOR RESERVOIR RELEASES IN INDIA

  • Flooding in India is a social issue. India experiences natural floods & induced floods each year. The latter are caused by unplanned & uncontrolled releases from reservoirs for which we have no legislation. Flood warning is a very effective mechanism for reducing loss of life. The Central Water Commission (CWC) that is responsible for providing flood warnings is misleading the peoples of India by telling them that nothing more can be done. CWC’s flood forecasting capabilities are primitive. Officers at the top are not on the top because of expertise but because of seniority in service.

WE CAMPAIGN TO RESTORE THE QUALITY OF FINANCIAL AUDIT IN INDIA

  • Like most peoples of India my image of The Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) was very high until I visited the building behind the façade. All I could see during my brief tour was broken down systems; unenthusiastic & demoralized staff; pride less & unconcerned top brass. CAG has allowed himself to be turned into a Rubber Stamp through a process of gradual compromise. Governments break rules CAG watches helplessly. Government companies break rules CAG watches helplessly. My experience with CAG is very disappointing. People of India hold office of the CAG in high regard. It is unjustified.

Conflict has divine sanction

  • All those people who we admire or even worship have one thing in common. They do not walk away from situations of conflict. Violence and war is not always justified but walking away from a situation of conflict in the interest of keeping the peace is never justified, unless, of course the conflict itself is not justified. Mahatma Gandhi’s famous quote that one should present the left side of his face when one is already slapped on the right has been widely misinterpreted. It does not mean surrender or withdrawal from conflict. It means quite the opposite. The engagement in the conflict is firm but the methodology of resolving it is different.

WE WOULD LOVE YOU TO JOIN US

We are engaged in social activism but of a different kind. We demand solutions from governments like all other social activists do but we do not stop there. We research a problem & then develop a technology based management solution for the problem. Then we campaign for the solution to be accepted & then partner governments to implement the solutions.

Our kind of activism involves research & requires patience, persistence. We work on issues where street protests and mass movements are not likely to yield any results. We invite all like minded people & organizations to join us.

MAKE A FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTION

  • The vehicle for the AMAN MOVEMENT is the Aman Satya Kachroo Trust. This trust was registered in Delhi in 2009 as a not for profit organization. The Trust is funded by family & friends & well wishers. The trust also earns money by working for governments. UGC pays the Trust to monitor the National Ragging Prevention Program & the Government of Chhattisgarh pays it to manage its 181 Women Help Line. We are always short of money. We welcome financial contribution from friends & well wishers. No amount is too small for us.
